A Testimony of SalvationThe year was 1973. I was a sophomore in high school the daughter of God-fearing parents. Our family attended church services weekly, as well as volunteered in many church committees. My parents performed all their religious activities with such cheerfulness and sincerity that I was inspired to follow their example. However, I myself did not have any assurance that God was real. I merely hoped that He was real.
Shortly before the spring of 1973, I attended an assembly at my high school. All I remember about the program was the singing which was about Jesus Christ. As we walked to our lockers after the assembly, my best friend, Susan, asked if I would like to attend a meeting where the singers from the assembly would be performing. I jumped at the chance!
The meeting was held in the city auditorium. Thousands of people were present. There was singing. There were speakers. What I remember most definitely was the question asked by one speaker, “Do you know if you will spend eternity with Jesus?” Up until that evening, the thought of death was fearful because what would occur after death was such a big unknown to me. The speaking helped me to see death was only a door and on the other side of the door was a Person, Jesus Christ. As I prayed to receive Him into me as my Savior and Life, I realized for the first time that God was real.
The year is 2001; God is real to me. I have the assurance that I am His and He is mine for eternity. Theresa Surber | Back to List |
